Long way to the start

The lead-up to this cycletour has been challenging. If I research too much, I'll want to plan and start locking in bookings, making an overly rigid trip. So this trip shall start in Christchurch and finish in Wellington, and take exactly three weeks because the start and end flights have been booked.

I decided to make Brisbane my stopover as I don't really head up that way. It was one of the options that didn't incur extra cost (apart from airport taxes). I had a nap after pushing my bike box almost a kilometre through the humidity, hill (up to Mill Tower) and mismatched train and platform heights. The strap-on wheels worked quite well except when I hadn't had one of the wheels completely clicked into its platform. Huzzah for speculative online purchasing.

In the later afternoon I had a look at the Gallery of Modern Art. There was a lot of weird stuff and I pretended to be cultured and try to make sense of it all. Like someone with all these pencils attached to their face, and cutlery and chillies on the floor.

While reassembling my bicycle at Christchurch Airport, two cycletourists showed up so I was able to transfer custody of my bicycle box to them. That saved me from having to dispose of it!

 Food

Toasties on the plane to Brisbane.
Qantas Lounge food at Brisbane International Airport.

Omelette on the flight to Christchurch.
First Christchurch meal - on their menu they had something that sounded like a HSP.
I didn't have one but Wendy's does bubble tea here.
